Object Data Management (ODM)

We have a definition of the Object Information Envelope

Just like "time" is the fourth dimension in physics, the “information envelope” of an object constitutes another dimension of its own, at least when it comes to manufacturing or fabrication. The existence of an object is dictated by the location in 3D space, when is it there, and what are the physical & chemical characteristics that make this object capable to perform a specific function. The library of those characteristics is the information envelope of the object. To make an object print-able or build-able we need to include the bill of materials and the process or instructions along with the design specifications, and maybe even the instructions to use. In that way the digital presence is established.

The ODM work package includes:

  • Product Data Management     - i.e. description, dimensions, original purpose, history

  • Material Data Management  - chemical and physical properties to achieve purpose

  • Machine Data Management  - including CNC, PLC, 3D printing and machining programming

  • Instructions and Recipes      - how to make, build and/or assembly
